Atso Almila is Professor of Conducting at the Sibelius Academy of the Helsinki University of Arts, continuing the teaching traditions of his predecessors Jorma Panula and Leif Segerstam. Almila was himself a student of Panula from 1974-1977 at the Sibelius Academy. Since then he has been a regular guest conductor throughout Finland, as well as working in Sweden, Ireland, Austria and China. He has held the position of Chief Conductor of the Tampere Philharmonic, the Joensuu Orchestra  and the Kuopio Orchestra, and has been a regular guest at the Finnish National Opera. He has led conducting masterclasses in China, Finland, Ireland, Spain and Switzerland, and wrote a book together with Jorma Panula on the subject of teaching and conducting in 2010. Also active as a composer, Almila has written six operas, four symphonies, concertos for several instruments, as well as music for chamber ensembles, theatre and film.

 


 

Luke Dollman is Lecturer in Conducting at the Elder Conservatorium of Music, University of Adelaide. He has worked throughout Europe and Australasia, conducting orchestras such as the London Philharmonic, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, National Orchestra of Belgium, Helsinki Philharmonic, Monte Carlo Philharmonic, Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie, Halle Staatskapelle and all professional orchestras in Australia and New Zealand. He has also been active in the opera house, having been a regular guest at the Finnish National Opera, Opera Australia, and the State Opera of South Australia. Luke is a graduate of the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki and studied as a Fellow at the Aspen Festival of Music. He has taught conducting at the Sibelius Academy, Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, and for Symphony Services International.
